Best Athlete Ever Bracket

Welcome to our new side project - creating brackets for your pleasure! Below is our first bracket, "Best Athlete Ever." The image below is the bracket for you to view as a whole. We ranked the best 64 athletes ever. The criteria we used was threefold:
1.) How dominant were they of their respective sports?
2.) How culturally relevant, popular, and important were they?
3.) Could they play any other sports?
These criteria were weighted from the first being the most important to the last being the least important.

Best Athlete Bracket

Below here is the survey used to collect your answers. Pick one of each pair with who you personally think was the better athlete. Once you are finished, scroll over to the right within the survey box and click "finished." Feel free to use whatever criteria you see fit. Each round of the bracket will last approximately 3-4 days depending on the response. We will post updated brackets and surveys for each round. Remember, this is for fun so have fun!

  2. My Fianl Four:
    MJ
    Gretzky
    Ali
    Woods

All pretty safe bets, but it's hard to argue too much with their greatness.

I did have Lou Gehrig and Kareem going pretty far too.

  4. And Mia Hamm! You include a bowler but not Mia? Is this a real bracket or just a joke?

  5. Alright the Mia Hamm miss is completely indefensible on our part. She would have no doubt been the highest seeded woman in the field with the potential to make a deep run. We are currently under-staffed and unfortunately some oversights will be made by the committee. We are working to make sure this does not happen on future brackets.

The Lance Armstrong ommission was intentional. First of all, cycling is not a sport (I kid! I kid!). The real reason is his association with PED's and blood doping. He has been accused, tested positive, and been the focus of investigations relating to PEDs. We chose not to include anyone strongly associated with steroids or PEDs because it was felt that they had cheated their way to greatness, and how does that make them a great athlete? You may not agree, but it's the direction we went. BOOM!
